Meal Time

Everyday Ben and I are shocked at how much Lucas is growing! Everyday he amazes us at how much he can do if we let him!

Since Lucas is exclusively breastfed, we did not feel the need to rush out and buy a high chair. But, this weekend, we finally purchased a Chicco high chair which matches his travel system and pack-n-play.

Lucas has become very interested in what his mom and dad are eating. He reaches for the food you are eating and the glass you are drinking from. Lucas especially loves playing with an empty water bottle!

Even though we have been given the o.k. from our Pediatrician, we have not wanted to introduce solid foods to Lucas yet because it is recommended by the American Academy for Pediatrics to wait until he is 6 months of age.

However, since Lucas is so interested in what we are eating, we decided to try the rice cereal again. We mix a little cereal with some breast milk to keep it familiar. The first few bites he takes he acts like it is disgusting! Then, all of a sudden he won't stop grabbing the spoon and shoving it into his mouth!

When he is finished eating, he wants to drink from the small milk bottle without the nipple. So we decided to see how he would handle a sippy cup and it is HILARIOUS! He thinks he is much bigger than he really is!

We hoped that the rice cereal would help Lucas sleep through the night, but it doesn't seem to change his sleeping patterns at all. We have always heard conflicting views on the correlation between sleeping and feeding rice cereal. Some say it helps babies sleep through the night and others say it is a myth. For us, it is a myth.

For now, we are going to continue getting Lucas used to eating at the table with us and eating rice cereal until he is 6 months. At 6 months, we are planning to begin feeding Lucas family style where he will eat fruits/veggies that mom and dad are also eating at that meal. We are going to try to not feed him the prepackaged food with all of the chemicals and preservatives. I've heard it is super easy to just steam/cook the veggies that you are having for dinner and then put some in a "magic bullet" like machine for the baby to eat. When you have extra, you just store it for another meal. It all sounds easy now, but we will see.

Until then, Lucas will keep entertaining us at the table!
